So it’s been a little over a month since i arrived in the PI. Back home I left behind too many people I love, but I know I will see them again when my journey is over. As for now I’m in a pretty exciting point in my life. This will be my third time back here in PI so I haven’t really experienced any culture shock because I already knew what to expect, but I’m sure something is gonna surprise the longer i stay here. It is a huge difference though, compared to how I am use to living. For the first couple weeks I was staying in the village where my mom lived when she was a child. If you want to get to the village or leave the village you have to take a little boat to cross the river. surrounding the village are acres of rice fields, then jungle and mountains. When the sun is setting I like to look out towards the mountains because it’s such a different view than back home. the house we stay in at the village isn’t even finished. there’s two floors, but there’s no roof, just bed sheets and tarps to block the rain. there’s no running water. we have to pump water from the ground into buckets then bring them back to the house to wash clothes, wash dishes, flush the toilet, and to “shower.” washing my self wasn’t really a big deal for me because i already expected how it would be from my past visits, but i’ll explain it so you guys have an idea. Since there’s no running water, they fill up huge tubs with the water that they pump from the ground, then they use what is called a “tabo” pretty sure that’s not how you spell it, but it’s pretty much the size of a small pot and they use that to scoop the water out of the tubs and dump onto themselves. there’s no hot water either, so that’s why i usually way til the afternoon when it gets hot to “shower” because the cold water feels nice haha. I’ve met a lot of the guys my age already because i was drinking with the Captain of our Barangay, in america i guess he would be the mayor of our town, but i was drinking with him, my biological father, and there friends. We couldn’t really talk to each other though so they called over this guy named jhun jhun who is majoring in education and he ended up being our translator the whole night haha. His english really surprised me, but i’m glad that I met him. you could say he’s the closest friend that i have here, and i guess he’s my second cousin too. he’s 18 and in his 3rd year of college. he invited me to play basketball with him the next day so i could meet the other guys in the village. at 3 the next day i met up with all of them at the basketball court and we played four games. there’s one guy who has a really nasty shot. i’m pretty sure he made 75% of the points on his team every game, and they won every game except 1. he was pretty good. then there’s these 2 guys that are around my height who are really good at driving, they could probably keep up with you guys back home, but other than those three guys everyone else is mediocre, some better than me, some worse haha. I have fun playing with them though. I know there’s a million more things i have to tell you guys, but im too tired right now haha. i think it’s like 4 am, probably later, idk haha. I can here the roosters though so i know that means i’ve been up for too long. so i’m gonna get some sleep, but if you guys want to know anything then just let me know and i’ll be sure to include it on my next update which will probably be later today or tomorrow. Love you guys! Still reppin WolfPack on this side of the world! you already know!
